C.66 - "Sad Theme #1"

Composed: ~October 2014

Ah, this is a cheerful one. The material for this theme was derived from the segment entitled 'Loss' from "C.64 - Opening Fanfare", albeit expanded with different instrumentation and further material. What more can I say with this one? It was intended to accompany a sad event in a video game (although the near-hopeful nature of the latter half of this theme could be mistaken for an "Inspirational Theme"!).

I'm not sure what my reasoning was behind changing the melody from a tuba to a harp between "C.64and this piece – perhaps an attempt to convey more emotion through a more somber timbre? It is quite a stretch, but either way, this is not a favourite of mine, probably reflected in the poorer quality of the recording (which never received an updated version, compared to the others).

In 2019, I re-purposed this composition into a video track for my music library, "RPG Orchestral Essentials", giving it a proper title - "A Bitter Hope".
