New Arrangement: "Sol Sanctum" from Golden Sun (2001)

Finishing off the "Sol Sanctum" themes, here is another theme from the classic JRPG, "Golden Sun" (2001) - titled, well, "Sol Sanctum", from the first dungeon of the game. Feel free to check it out!

Feel free to download the score and recording here!

Arranger's Note:

"Interestingly, this track doesn't start in the home key ("Tonic"; A minor). Instead, it starts on the dominant key (the 5th; E major) before moving to the tonic.

The track exemplifies more of Sakuraba's classic "echoing", as seen in the Alto Flutes of 0:02, and later in the flutes at 0:19 and the trumpets at 0:53.

As the original opens with a strong string melody, I've expanded that here to encompass two octaves in the upper violins, and completed the full harmonies in the string accompaniment.

Since Sol Sanctum is home to the Elemental Stars, I've included several elements that allude to them. This includes the use of bright, twinkling instruments such as the glockenspiel and celesta, but even going so far as to quote the melodic motif from "The Elemental Stars", albeit sped up, as seen in the horns of 0:41 and later the celesta itself at 0:45.

The original at 0:36 was rather scarce, so I've included a running semiquaver melody in the clarinet which is slowly expanded. This material is inspired by the opening semiquaver runs in the Alto Flutes, which was present in the original."
