Arranger's Note:

"In true Uematsu fashion, the track is simple yet infinitely memorable with its focus on a strong trumpet melody playing around a common harmonic sequence (Bb - Gb - Ab - F).

While the snare drum creates the trudging tread of an army, the lower strings perform a persistent crotchet ostinato with the occasional chromatic excitement (e.g. 0:23), altogether creating the impression of an army marching into battle.

Tonally, the track is largely in the Dorian mode, noted with the characteristic shift from Bb minor to Eb major at 0:07, 0:15 and 0:39.

The track ends with a nice snippet of contrary motion (1:20) as the oboe and clarinet travel away from one another, concluding with an Ab dominant 7th chord with an added 6th (F) to better loop back to the tonic of Bb minor.

At 0:55, the snare drum doesn't perform the tremolo roll that it performs throughout the rest of the track. As to whether that is a performance error or intended is tricky to discern."
