Arranger's Note:

"The track itself is quite a simple one, pivoting back and forth between the tonic and dominant to start (0:02), with a quick modulation to the subdominant (G minor) at 0:10.

When the wind instruments enter (0:17), they are very simply placed on a tonic scale between the tonic and dominant. A little bit of interest occurs with a diminished 7th chord at 0:26 and again at 0:30.

When we get to 0:36, now in A minor, we get a very Uematsu progression (used quite often in evil/enemy lair locations), which goes from A minor - B major - B-flat major - A minor; a dark progression that has very chromatically smooth voice leading (e.g. C - B - Bb - A, as it appears here in the clarinet at 0:37).

This progression occurs again at 0:54, now slightly more orchestrated, before moving to a minor 7th chord in the subdominant (G minor) at 1:05. The instruments slowly fade, leaving only the solo piano to bring us back to the tonic of D minor with a quasi-augmented 6th chord."
